Where Wisdom REALLY Comes From
Introduction
I’d like you to ponder where your wisdom comes from. Where it really comes from, I mean (and where it goes to). And I won’t take too much of your time – 400 words to read, or less…
About Your Wisdom (About You!)
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
– Confucious
Where does your wisdom come from?
Have you ever wondered?
(Have you?)
Does it come from others, for example?
- The wise words of your Nan, remembered some ten years later that suddenly make sense?
- The simplistic noticings of a young child wondering at the world?
- Or is it the guru, teacher, or so-called ‘thought leader’ – with his pearls of wisdom, all polished and holy?
Really? Wisdom comes from others, does it, from ‘out there’ somewhere?
O-kay, so where does their wisdom come from, then? Where did these others get it? Was there a 2-for-1 special offer on wisdom at their local Lidl? Was it taking action, action, action, that forced wisdom to wax lyrical one day? Or did ‘life’ just teach it to them, some way along the journey?
Where does their wisdom come from?
Where does your wisdom come from?
Have you ever wondered? (Have you?)
The Source of Your Wisdom, Then…
Hmm, despite my knowing where your wisdom comes from and despite my knowing that you know where your wisdom comes from too, it seems I am not going to explicity share that one one-word answer here.
That is quite unlike me, as I’m usually far too quick to tell and not show.
So, staying unusual, I thought I’d share a few examples of wisdom now – that they might help you remember your own wisdom AND… and where it comes from (should it be a rainy day and you’re in need of it again)…
Some Wonderful Examples of Wisdom (Quotes)
Galileo Galilei
“You can’t teach anybody anything, only make them realize the answers are already inside them.”
Albert Einstein
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”
Rumi
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”
Kahlil Gibran
“Your children and not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.”
Anais Nin
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
“The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao…”
3 Minute Heroes Video
Here’s what came to me as I shared my thoughts on wisdom during a 3 Minute Heroes video I recorded in December, 2014:
