Frustrations of a ‘Serving Soul’ – Can You Help?…
Ever wondered what it looks like to make a mountain out of a molehill? Know the answer to the question, “How do you eat an elephant?” And, would you rather be a juicy peach or a clockwork orange?
What follows is a somewhat rambling discourse on solving a specific problem (finding my coaching niche) that probably reveals why I have the problem…
My Problem in Short: How Can I Support (Someone Like) You?
…I have a problem, see – a BIG one: I’m trying to find out how I can help you!
Now I might not be able to help you, the one that is reading this – the timing might be wrong, I might be wrong, or you might just be okay with ALL that is in your world. But I can definitely help someone, right now, I know I can – the Inside Out understanding, and my unique presence on this planet are two reasons enough to make that statement true.
So my ‘mountainous’ question is this, Who can I help? (Is it you?)…
I Am A Man In Search of a Niche…
Yes, that’s me over there. A man. And I’m in search of what Tad Hargrave (from NichingSpiral.com) lovingly calls ‘[my] role in the community’ – aka a niche.
And I’d like your help in finding it. Please. Simply fill in the contact form below and tell me what you’d like some help with – just doing this will help me (help you!).
Areas I might be able to help you include
…Er, I’m not exactly sure, hence this blog post about my wanting to find my niche! (Fact is – bold statement alert! – I can help you in ANY area of your life, well any area that involves thinking! Which leads me nicely to…)
How Do I Know I Have Niching Problems?
This is a great question. (Really.) My answer, then: I feel the truth of it, that’s how.
At SMNash.com (and in my videos and newsletters) I share my experiences of the Inside Out understanding – the answer to all of humanity’s problems, no less! – in a way that is generally helpful at best, and “meh, so what, I know this already!” at worst.
I share the spiritual truth that you’re living in the feeling of your thinking not the feeling of your circumstances and it has no effect, it seems, sharing it ‘indiscriminately’ as I do.
And people ask me what do I do, and I tell them – somewhat blankly – that I’m a transformative coach. (Yeah, what the heck does that even mean?)
It’s like I’m in the middle of the thirstiest of deserts, I’ve got an abundance of watery stuff, and I can’t even give it away!
By way of contrast, this esteemed coaching colleague of mine has definitely found her niche – see how you know exactly what she’s about, and who she’s for!
- Caroline Frenette
(niche: ‘coaching brilliant women entrepreneurs’)
Again, What My Niche Might Be And Whom Might I Serve?
So who might I serve so brilliantly as Caroline, then? Hmm, well let’s delve deeper into my thoughts, into my story, and see what we can dredge up… (Tick tock, tick tock.)
Okay, then, these are the areas of human life that most fascinate me, that I believe are most important to making a positive difference to the world right now!
1. Being Yourself – perhaps the purpose of anyone’s life, and both a continual struggle for me and what I successfully practice on a daily basis (e.g. non-conformity, individuality, thinking for yourself…)
2. Servant Leadership – a form of leading from within; or how to lead without the need for followers (how to empower without dis-empowering, so to speak)
3. Slowing Down – a great way to hear yourself is to slow down, I believe, and oh boy am I ever an advocate of “the slow life” (I really ought to ‘speed up’, if just a little)
Hah! But who wants to pay for that?
So Why Is Finding Your Niche Important?
Oh boy, I don’t even know where to begin answering this question. Much bigger brains have given this the benefit of their grey-matter in trying to answer this question.
Tad Hargraves in his excellent, and helpful, ebook called The Niching Nest, describes niching as the following:
* A niche is your role in the community
* A niche may not be your life purpose
* A niche can be defined by your wounds…
Niching is all about finding the right fit, Tad goes on to say in his ebook. So a niche isn’t there to be please everyone; but a niche is there to please someone!
My way of looking at niching is simpler. (AND more complicated!) It’s my sense of BRIGHTNESS (or ONness) – how right do my actions feel, how directed are they, and how clear can I be about who I can help and how? (How bright am I shining my light for the benefit of others?)
As for the ‘complication’, and maybe a good reason why I might be struggling to find my niche, well it looks like this:
It seems that I’m trying to find out what to do next to completely solve my financial situation now and in the future! (Oh boy!)
Again, Finding My Niche Isn’t That Important – Shining My Light Is
Let me repeat myself here, let me be clear. I don’t really care about finding my niche, if truth be told; I just want to be ON – to be activated, to come alive, to share my ‘truth’ and shine my light.
Just a small matter then.
And whilst these are metaphors, silly words really, I do feel directionless, I do. I believe that finding my niche will help me shine my light, help me be more ON. That’s all.
So an example of ON, for you – an example of direction? Here is more evidence for the defence, m’lord, and the succesful offering of another esteemed colleague:
- Nicola Bird
(A less clear niche, maybe – ‘simplicity’ – but Nicola is most definitely ON!)
